After degrees in medicine and medical sciences from Lund (Sweden) and London (UK), including a Ph D (neuro-pharmacology), I spent most of my professional life as a medical academic. In 1998 I changed direction radically. From then on I accepted only occasional free-lance research consultancies, and set out to make a long-held wish come true: to become a “non-medical” writer and a literary translator. I have become a successful literary translator from the Germanic languages into English, winning the Bernard Shaw Prize for Literary Translation in 2000.
My first published non-medical book was a study of landscape, identity and green policy in Scotland and other northern European countries. My current projects are a book about documentary fiction (working title: Truth-tellers?), and a novel in a Scottish clinical setting (working title: A Passion for Work.).
I am a British citizen, married to a Scot and have one son. The family lives in Scotland.
